7 Ancient Wonders of the World

1. Great Pyramid of Giza

The Great Pyramid of Giza is on of the oldest pyramid in Egypt. It is also one of the three pyramids in Giza. It is located in Egypt. It is also called as Pyramid of Khufu or the Pyramid of Cheops.

2. Hanging Gardens of Babylon

Hanging Gardens of Babylon was one of the oldest Wonder of the world. And it is the only wonder whose location is still not find. There is a big confusion in the location of this Ancient wonder.

3. Statue of Zeus at Olympia

The Statue of Zeus was a long figure/statue at Olympia. It was about 13 m tall and it was made by Phidias (a Greek sculptor). It was built around 435 BC at the sanctuary of Olympia (Greece).

4. Temple of Artemis at Ephesus

This temple was also known as the Temple of Diana. It was dedicated to the goddess Artemis. It was also listed as one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World.

5. Mausoleum at Halicarnassus

It was also known as the Tomb of Mausolus. And it was built in between 353 and 350 BC at Halicarnassus for Mausolus (a satrap in the Persian Empire). The height of this tomb was 45 meter.

6. Colossus of Rhodes

The Colossus of Rhodes (roʊdz) was a statue.  The statue belongs to the Titan – God of the Sun Helios. It was in the city of Rhodes (Greek island). The height of the statue was 32 meter. And it was destroyed by the earthquake.

7. Lighthouse of Alexandria

It is also known as the Pharos of Alexandria. It was a lighthouse. And it was built by the Ptolemaic Kingdom in between 280 and 247 BC.  The height of Lighthouse of Alexandria was about 393 – 450 ft tall. And it was also destroyed by the earthquake.

And in this list only the Great Pyramid of Giza still exists.

New Wonders of the World

1. Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China is in the new list of Wonders of the World. It is a long chain of wall from east to west line around the borders of China. Basically it is a collection of various walls. That were built to protect the China from other groups of Eurasian Steppe.

2. Petra

Petra is a city that is built by cutting the rock. It is situated in the southern Jordanian governorate of Ma’an. It is famous for its historical architecture and water conduit system.

3. Christ the Redeemer

Christ the Redeemer is a statue in the Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). It was created by a French sculptor Paul Landowski.  This huge statue was built by Heitor da Silva Costa a Brazilian engineer.

4. Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is situated in Peru. It is a collection of mountains type huge blocks. The maximum elevation is about 2,430 meters. And total area covered is around 13 kilometer squares.

5. Chichen Itza

It is a Columbian city that was built by the Maya people. These people belongs to the Terminal Classic period. It is located in Tinúm Municipality, Yucatán State (Mexico).

6. Colosseum

It is also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre. Colosseum is an elliptical amphitheater. It is situated in Rome (Italy).

7. Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal is also the most famous place of tourism in India. The beauty of Taj spreads world wide. It was built by the Mughal King Shah Jahan for his beloved wife Mumtaj Mahal.

8. Great Pyramid of Giza

If we talk about the pyramids then Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest one and the most famous one also. It’s total height is 139 meters. The construction was started in the year 2560BC.
