Planning to explore Asia? Dreaming of driving around Europe? Travelling may be one of the most rewarding things anyone can do with one’s time and money. Being able to share it with the entire family makes the experience twice as fun.

Nowadays, pets have become part of the family too. Going away on a vacation without our beloved fur babies can sometimes feel like the family is incomplete. Good thing that it is now possible to have them tagged along to almost anywhere in the world!

Tickets? Check. Accommodation? Check. You have to understand though that there is more than just booking transport and accommodation to travel with any animal.

Before anything else, make sure you are all set to travel with them. For air travel, read policies when travelling on a plane and make sure that your pets are as comfortable as possible.

Here is a comprehensive checklist of items you need to prepare before taking off.

Vaccination Records and Permits

It is important to have proper documentation showing your pet’s vaccination and health history at hand when travelling. This is especially true if you plan to travel by air.

You will be required by the recipient country or state to present these together with other permits. Also, this could come in handy just in case your pet gets sick. You do not want your pets to go through the pain of getting detained and quarantined just because of missed vaccinations (or worse) you forgot to keep and bring their records.

Permits can take a long time to acquire so be sure to start processing as soon as possible!

Tags/Tracking Chip

Having your pets embedded with a tracking chip is required by some countries. In case of local travel where a tracking chip is not required, do not forget to have them wear their tags. You do not want them to get lost, do you?

It could also be extra helpful to have your updated contact details in their tags.

Sturdy Leash

You will be in need of a leash for your pet almost all the time when on vacation. This is a must when taking the animals out for pee breaks or even for a stroll. They too can get excited by the change in scenery that they might run around more than they usually do.

Food and Water

Imagine yourself travelling for extensive hours without any access to food or water. Not fun, right? Pets can get hungry and thirsty while in transit.

It is imperative as a pet owner that you think of their basic needs. Giving them the nourishment they require ensures that you would be able to enjoy your trip with your beloved pet.

First Aid Kit

Travelling with a pet is almost similar to having a child with you. Booboos are inevitable. As a paw parent, you will want to be prepared for minor injuries.

Your first aid kit must include the essentials: gauze bandages, adhesive tape, scissors, saline solution for flushing wounds, styptic powder, tweezers, antiseptic moist wipes, and any medication or vitamins your pet might be taking.

Covers and Clean-up Kit

Vacations are supposed to be fun but it won’t be if you spend most of your time cleaning after your pet. You can use old blankets to cover your car seats and hotel furniture. Don’t forget your clean-up kit too!

It should include wipes, towels, and plastic bags – lots of it!. It could save you from having to pay for damages or penalties.

Bed and Crate

Pets can sometimes have a hard time adjusting to the new environment. After a long flight or road trip, they can become really exhausted.

Having to sleep in a strange room or cot can be a bit stressful that they don’t get their much-needed rest. Make sure to bring their favourite bed or blanket just to give them a small piece of home with them.

Toys

Pets can get fussy especially during a long drive. To keep them entertained, do not forget to bring their favourite toys. These toys can also lower their anxiety level caused by an unfamiliar place.

Double Check Destination Requirement

This might be the first thing you did during the planning stage but counter checking your destination’s requirements for pet import is necessary to ensure that you have not missed out on anything.

Requirements vary depending on your place of destination so it is a must to be 100% sure you have everything covered.

Double Check Accommodation

Prior to leaving, make sure to check with your preferred accommodation that it is expecting your pet to be travelling with you. There are several hotels that are pet-friendly but it won’t hurt to double check that their policies have not changed since the last time you inquired.

Do Your Research

You might already have an itinerary prepared moments after booking your flight but is your furry friend allowed to go with you to these places? Check if you can bring your pet with you to certain places as some would not allow animals inside their establishments.

There are several companies that offer boarding and daycare services in case pets can’t be tagged along. Also, check on local veterinarians and clinics in the area just to be on the safe side.

Being prepared is the key to having an enjoyable time – both for you and your pet. Is everything in order? Perfect! Now, all you have to do is to relax and have fun!

Hamburg

Hamburg holds the title as Germany’s party capital. Considering that this city has launched the Beatles into the mainstream, it is no wonder why culture is constantly flourishing. Compared to Prague, Hamburg is a bit more expensive but the choice of activities, such as party boats, excursions to St. Pauli’s Red Light District, and beer biking, make it a perfect bachelor destination. People are quite open-minded, women are classy, and everything is regulated at high standards so you won’t have to fear getting scammed or ripped off.

The land of the ‘All Right’ is the jewel of the Caribbean. Jamaica boasts some of the most breathtaking sites, the best fun activities, and the most accommodating culture. The island is, therefore, one of the best places in the world to vacation.

But what should you know before you head out to enjoy the best of the Caribbean? We will tell you in the following guide.

When to Go

The winter seasons are the best times to have your Caribbean vacation. The sun feels glorious when the home countries get bitterly cold. And while it is warm in Jamaica at this time, the hotel prices are usually at their highest. You can shoulder your plans for an ideal vacation at the Caribbean until July when the prices dip by as much as a third.

However, you may want to avoid the hurricane months of September and October, as well as, the rainy season in November.

Where to Go

Kingston is the heartbeat of the Caribbean island bursting with sunshine, exotic jungle, and thriving business districts. The nightlife in Kingston is uniquely local, and the town is the best place to get intimate with the one-of-a-kind culture. It has some of the top heritage sites and clubs.

Negril is the place to be for the softest sand and non-stop ocean views. The beaches here have shallow entries, especially ideal of the non-swimmers, and lazy dives. The Negril cliffs and other spots around Jamaica are ideal places for the blossoming young love. The candlelight dinners and sunsets around various spots on the island will strengthen your passion and make life worth living. Montego Bay has the Doctor’s Cave Bathing Club which is believed to have healing waters. The place has a sea of umbrellas to escape to when the sun is too hot, and as you enjoy the sights around you.

Port Antonio has Frenchman’s Cove Beach where you can swim in the cold waters and cool off. The pristine estuary in this beach is among the few places where you can take a selfie of your life to show to all your friends and family, and show them the much fun you are having at the Caribbean.

The south coast is the hub of the best seafood dishes where you can savor fresh fish and lobster. The Treasure Beach is the place to relax and surf. Talking of surfing, the Palisadoes Strip and Jamnesia host some of the largest surfing events and you can showcase your skills here, as you catch waves for fun and great trophies.

The Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park holds some of the island’s most pervasive plant and animal species, and the best place for hikers and bird watching. The UNESCO world heritage site is home to the Blue Mountain coffee, parrots, hummingbirds, and Swallow Tail butterfly.

YS waterfall is in the midst of beautiful gardens and an excellent place for selfies and water fun. The scenic waterfall provides several pools with fresh and cool water for swimming and cooling off. But for those seeking optimal relaxation, there’s the Roaring River Cave in Shrewsbury Estate. The mineral springs from the underground caverns, as well as, the landscaped gardens provide some of the most memorable sensory experiences you will ever have.

The Currency

The Jamaican Dollar is available in the international exchange. But you may not need to worry too much as most hotels and places use US Dollars as the primary currency. However, check the exchange rate and determine whether you are getting a favorable deal across destinations.

Emergencies

The emergency numbers for fire and ambulance is 110. It is 119 for the police. However, your first point of contact should be the hotel reception as they have all contacts to emergency services.

Local Etiquette

Jamaicans are some of the most charming people and are always ready to help. However, a little caution is necessary. Don’t venture into the remote places at odd hours and take appropriate actions when approached by strangers. Typically, exercise the same care that you would at home.

If you need anything, always use the hotel staff as opposed to passersby. A little care and caution go a long way into ensuring your safety and fun vacation. For other useful bits of information we recommend you take a look at the jamaica hotel guide – jamaicahotelreview.com.

Regardless of where you’re travelling to, accommodation prices are an unavoidable expense that often costs a fortune. However, there are certain measures that you can take to significantly reduce the cost of accommodation for your next holiday. Check out the following suggestions of accommodation deals that’ll leave you with more spending cash than you’ve ever anticipated.

  1. Stay with a Local

If you’re travelling alone, then the best way to slash accommodation costs would be to stay in the home of someone who is based in your destination of choice. Staying with a local give you an opportunity to get a really good feel of what a place is like, as they’ll most probably take you on excursions that most tourists don’t get to see, and the best part is that you’ll be staying free of charge for the entire trip! To find reliable and safe hospitality exchanges, search on websites like Hospitality Club, Global Freeloaders and Couch Surfing, where all the users have been verified and reviewed for your peace of mind.

  1. Short Term Rentals

These are very popular right now, and they offer oodles of value for money. With short-term rentals, you get to stay at a fully furnished home or apartment, with similar amenities as those you’d find at a hotel, like housekeeping and sometimes even a car, so it’s definitely worth trying. This is a great option if you’re travelling as a couple or a family, or even a group of friends, and could save you a ton of money when compared to the cost of staying at a hotel. Other benefits include being able to get that home feeling even when staying abroad, and having a kitchen to cook from to cut costs. Apart from AirBnB, you can get great home rental deals on Wimdu and Roomrama.

  1. Try out Farm Living

If you’ve always been curious about the farm life, then why not try out farm living for a few weeks? A farm stay offers the opportunity to learn how a farm really works, and can even come with the chance to take part in a few custom farm-style outdoor activities.  Staying at a farm has a similar feel and cost to staying at a Bed and Breakfast, although the rate varies according to the type of farm you’re staying at, and the facilities that they offer. To get access to great farm stay deals, visit the Farm Stay Accommodation website and look for farm stay options in your area.

  1. Hostels

In the past, hostels were known as sort of grungy, dorm-style accommodation that only catered to large groups of travellers. While there are still those types of hostels available, most have seriously upgraded their facilities to cater for couples and singles as well, with individual rooms and amenities that rival those of some of the best hotels. Plus they’re available at an accessible price range that caters to even the most budget-conscious traveller. The Hostelworld website has a wide selection of hostels to choose from that are safe, dependable, cheap and comfortable.

  1. Stay at a Monastery

This is a fairly unusual and new phenomenon, where travellers can opt to stay at a monastery, for a fraction of the price of a normal hotel. Granted the lodgings at a monastery are quite austere, and there are often curfews involved, but at least you get a clean, safe and semi-comfortable place to lay your head each night, and some even offer meals as well. To book a monastery stay, visit monasterystays.com.

  1. Local Websites

There are many rental websites online with a large list of accommodation property. These are owned by local business people who know the area very well. Booking with them means peace of mind because they know the ins and outs of the rental market and will not allow crooks to cheat the system. Unlike these big companies run by a huge team of employess. These employees have no clue what goes on in that area, and have no expertise of the rental market in general.

  1. Local Bloggers

Local bloggers do not usually have a commercial reason for promoting an accommodation place rather than the other, so you usually find their unbiased reviews of hotels, hostels, bnb’s etc. And they tend to update their content on a regular basis. Websites like maltauncovered.com in Malta and greece-is.com/blog/ in Greece are 2 examples of blogs where you find the right information from local bloggers.

Wherever you decide to stay, it is advisable to do a research online, if you type in the accommodation property name + review, you should be able to find real reviews from people who have stayed in that rental property. These are honest reviews by real people.

There are different classes of travel as offered by the Indian Railways. Each of these has its own pros and cons, still making trains one of the most preferred modes of travel. You can find differences in the fare, the services, the number of people, etc. as you go to book your tickets and travel by the selected class after you check PNR status. Let’s take a look at some of the classes of travel on the Indian Railways trains:

First AC Sleeper (1A)

Great comfort comes at a price. This is definitely the case with the highest class of travel, First AC Sleeper (1A). Here is an interesting fact: it is not present in every passenger train. It is the most expensive class with fare that is comparable to an air ticket. It consists of four-berth cabins and two-berth coupes with doors that can be bolted from the inside. The best thing about this is that it provides a greater extent of privacy as in the entire coach only has 18-24 passengers and the coupes or cabins can be bolted from inside. There are several facilities like attendant-on-call, reading lights, clean beddings, etc. The level of cleanliness is maintained better in the toilets in this class as compared to other classes.

Executive Class (1A)

If you’re not flying business class, you can definitely plan some part of your travel via the Executive Class present in the Shatabdi Express trains and few Duronto Expresses. Enjoy a great amount of legroom space in this sitting class which has 2 x 2 seating. Meals served in Executive Class is better in quality and quantity in comparison to other classes in the train. A short or a long day journey by this class can be great.

Second AC Sleeper (2A)

Second AC Sleeper is the second highest sleeping class offered by the Indian Railways. It
accommodates about 46-54 passengers comfortably. Though it offers a fair amount of space, it offers less privacy than First AC Sleeper with the unlockable doors. There are eight bays of berths that are divided into four “inner” berths and two “side” berths. Each set of four inner berths has a curtain for privacy purposes that can be drawn to block views of the corridors. In case you want to relax while reading a newspaper or a novel, you can do so comfortably as each berth has its own reading light.

Three-tier AC Sleeper (3A)

Also known as Third AC, Three-tier AC Sleeper is one of the most popular AC classes in the Indian Railways; it is the cheapest AC class offering sleeping accommodation barring the relatively rare AC Sleeper Economy class. It makes for a fairly comfortable journey.

Unlike in Second AC Sleeper, the inner bay in Three-tier has three sets of berths; lower, middle and upper. It’s interesting to see how the backrest of the lower berth rotates upward to form the middle berth. This class does not have private reading lamps but has bedding provided. Moreover, the Three-tier AC Sleeper coaches now lack the privacy curtains in the aisles which were there before.

AC Chair Car (CC)

When you have to travel for short time, AC Chair Car is a good class of travel by. Though one has to sit throughout the journey, it is quite comfortable with a decent amount of leg space. It is air-conditioned with 3 x 2 seating.

Sleeper Class Non-AC (SL)

If you want to travel cheap, like only pay INR 800 to travel around 3000 km, you can do that if you travel by the Sleeper Class. If you want a travel backed by continuous entertainment and liveliness, this coach is definitely better than any other average AC coach. It is like a Three-tier AC Sleeper coach without the AC and the free bedding. In terms of privacy, it does not stand too powerful in comparison to other classes. Moreover, it does not have reading lights. You either feel hot or cold as per the weather conditions while travelling in this class as it does not have an insulated environment of its own.

Second Class Sitting (2S)

This is found mostly in daytime intercity trains. It is the cheapest reserved class which consists of 3 x 3 seating with non-reclining seats. The coaches have bus-like bench system, each accommodating seating 3 passengers. This class is great for short travels but often people board the train without proper reservations.

For many holidaymakers, the real fun of traveling to new destinations around the globe is when they begin sampling local cuisine. Even within countries, culinary styles will vary between regions, perhaps best exemplified by foods prepared throughout regions of Italy. There will be slight differences in ingredients used in the north and south, and then when you add Sicily into the mix, you get a totally different style altogether.

Mediterranean Cuisine with a Maltese Twist

That’s one of the amazing things you’ll find when sampling local cuisine in Malta and Gozo. Because of the various cultures which influenced our cuisine, you will get a hint here and there of favorite dishes from other ethnic groups that at one time or another ruled the Maltese archipelago. Even so, all traditional Maltese and Gozitan dishes are unique and a delight to anyone who has the pleasure of tasting some of the Mediterranean’s most delightful cuisine.

Locally Sourced Foods in Malta & Gozo Give New Meaning to the Term

When the Maltese say, “locally sourced foods,” they mean locally sourced foods. Unlike the foods sold throughout most of Europe and the United States, locally sourced foods are from producers probably just a mile or two away. The ingredients are fresh and brought in daily, especially fish, which are caught by local fishermen. Anyone who has ever sampled Maltese cuisine admits that it is highly influenced by Mediterranean flavors, but with a unique blend of ingredients that make it their own. However, there is nothing which can equal fresh produce, fresh seafood, and herbs are often grown right on the premises!  To this one has to add a delightful array of sweet treats that are often tied with special holidays or seasons.

Finding a Restaurant in Malta or Gozo

When it comes to restaurants, there really isn’t much difference between Malta and Gozo, other than the fact that Gozo is a smaller island and the locals cater to locals as well as to tourists. While many holidaymakers have found this beautiful sister to Malta in recent years, the typical traveler is looking for an authentic experience with a personal touch. When looking for a restaurant in Gozo, you only need ask the locals where they eat! There are a number of restaurants serving traditional Gozitan food in Victoria, the island’s capital, and these are frequented by visitors and locals alike.

Unlike some of the trendier restaurants in Malta, most restaurants in Gozo remain true to their cultural heritage. Not to say that Malta doesn’t serve authentic Maltese cuisine, but understandably, they would often modify recipes to appeal more to European tastes. If you are going to visit restaurants in Gozo, you will get a better price and authentically traditional foods, and even the 5-star hotels and restaurants strive to bring a menu that mirrors the culinary spirit of the island!

Traditional Maltese Foods You Must Try

It has been said that pastizzi is the one Maltese staple you can’t refuse. This crusty pastry is filled with ricotta and peas, or your choice of one or the other. As a luncheon, there is nothing better, unless you sample a plate of Gozitan cheeselets with a loaf of fresh Maltese bread to be dipped in kunserva, a rich tomato paste, unlike what you would expect. Not fond of tomatoes? Try dipping it in olive oil instead. There’s nothing to fear here because olive oil is actually heart-healthy!

While you can always do a quick Google search for the best restaurants in Malta and Gozo, it is far better to take a local aside and ask them where they like to eat. If it’s traditional Maltese cuisine you are after, dine with the locals. By all means, enjoy the fabulous 5-star service you’ll be pampered with at the resorts and popular restaurants, but you’ll probably enjoy the local haunts better.
